NIEC's mandate is to create a labour market where employers recognize and utilize the skills and experience immigrants bring to the Niagara region. Hence, Niagara’s employers involvement in NIEC activities is critical to create such an environment that will lead to a win-win situation for everyone. Niagara Immigrant Connections InitiativeNIEC (hosted by Niagara Workforce Planning Board) is undertaking an initiative to complement the work of Local Immigrant Partnerships in the development of Niagara Immigrant Connections Initiative, a Regional Mentorship pilot in the Green/BioTechnology Sector and a Connector pilot program to provide networking opportunities to immigrants in their field of expertise. The design of the pilot has also taken elements of some of the most successful mentorship programs both Regionally and Nationally and is working closely with Toronto Immigrant Employment Council and the National Mentorship Initiative and is funded by the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration. Please check the links below for pilot program information. This pilot is being designed with the collaborative effort of local immigrant and employment service providing agencies to address the employment side of settlement as both are success indicators of each other. Successful settlement will only be complete with employment and vice versa. NIEC will be engaging employers on behalf of the agencies throughout the Fall of 2010 and are looking for employers who are interested in Championing this initiative. If you would like to get involved in NIEC activities or learn more about how your organization can benefit from this colloborative initiative, please contact us at: Niagara Immigrant Employment Council (NIEC)
