Structure

NIEC is comprised of two co-chairs, a multi-stakeholder steering committee, council members, working groups and a secretariat.

Co-chairs – the Council will have two Co-chairs (1 employer champion and 1 community champion). The Co-chairs will steer and lead the Council’s vision and community commitment for moving forward with a plan of action. Co-chairs will be the primary spokespersons for the Council at public and official functions.

Multi-Stakeholders Steering Committee – the Council will have an 19 member multi-stakeholder Steering Committee consisting of 7 top level business leaders (including the Business Co-chair), 3 Community Foundations/Champions (including the Community Co-chair), 2 Service Providers (1 Settlement and 1 Employment), 2 Educational Institutions, 2 Economic and Workforce Development, 2 Government and 1 Labour. The Steering Committee will function as strategic decision making body for the Council.

Council Members - members will be champions of labour market integration for immigrants among stakeholders and the public at large. The Council will have 30 to 50 multi-stakeholder organizations as its members consisting of employers, community foundations/champions, service providers, immigrants/experts, labour unions, economic and workforce development agencies, educational institutions, occupational regulatory bodies, local, provincial and federal government representatives.

Working Groups – 5 task oriented working groups will be established to pursue Council’s priorities. The working group members will be comprised of Council members and non-members who have a particular expertise critical to the task at hand.

Secretariat - the Council, its Co-chairs, multi-stakeholder Steering Committee, project advisory committee and working groups will be supported by a small secretariat led by NIEC Project Manager.
